We are pleased to announce the annual seminar of Sokanbu. The seminar will be held at la Gendronnière, France, but this time it will be longer than usual, and it begins on 29th September and ends on 3rd October. This year’s program will be focused on the monastic practice (Practice in Senmon Sodo), not only real monastic practice itself. It is rather focused on “How to run Sodo”.
The program will be separated into two parts. The first part (from 29th Sep to mid-day 1st Oct) is a seminar obligatory for all Kyoshis. The lecturer will be Rev. Shinzen Takahashi, the abbot of Chigenji monastery in Kyoto prefecture. He will talk on the practice in Japanese Senmon Sodo from the point of view as a person responsible for the education of the monastics.
The second part (From mid-day 1st Oct to mid-day 3rd Oct) is optional. This is not obligatory. The second part of seminar will consist of the lectures and the workshops by Sokanbu staff. The main topics will be;
- The Sotoshu regulations running the monastery
- The daily, monthly, yearly schedule of the monastery
- How to officiate the ceremony (practice of Doshi, in the both manners at Eiheiji and Sojiji)
- The lecture on the texts of Eko

The celebration of the 50th anniversary of Zen in Europe will be held at La Gendronniere between the 11th and 14th May 2017. The program will first include a symposium / conference (11-12th) and then (13th ) an expo’- open door where tents will be erected and from them it is hoped that the many sanghas and different lineages within Europe will present themselves. The final morning (14th) will be orientated towards ritual and ceremony.
